WELCOME TO THE STOICS CC LIVING HISTORY SITE
'Stoics CC aspire to play a high standard of competitive declaration cricket true to our history, on beautiful grounds with and against interesting and companionable people. In this way to form strong relationships individually and, as a Club, to promote the best ethos and spirit of the game and all it means’ |
A NEW STYLE SITE:
Here the Stoics are pleased to present a new type of website. It is designed to run alongside the club's main day-to-day site so that it may provide a living history of this much esteemed ancient nomadic club which was established one hundred and thirty-six years ago, in 1877. This will leave the principal site uncluttered with historic information so that it can be free to deal with all of it's day-to-day membership business, fixture list, tours, team matters and its current and planned social events. All club members, past and present, and all visitors to the main site, will see a direct link to these pages and are invited to contribute any relevant historical information, statistics, photographs, press cuttings, anecdotes, etc that they may have so that the information contained here can be built into an authoritative on-going interactive account of the club's activities and achievements across the years.
What you will find presented here is a history of the club as far as it is known at the present time. Much of this has been drawn from the valuable works of distinguished past members who prepared booklets which were published to celebrate major milestones throughout the years and it will also utilise various press and magazine items and material from other contributors. Each will be acknowledged where appropriate.
This whole exercise should be viewed in two separate ways. Firstly, it should regarded as an ongoing project which is based on contributions received from home and overseas sources which have a direct, or an indirect, relevance to The Stoics. With that in mind it is expected that the content will be regularly updated. Secondly, with the now almost universal use of computers, tablets, ebook readers etc, the method being used here for publishing detailed material which is of only a limited interest because of its specialised nature is considered to be far and away better than conventional printing, not only from a cost point of view but also so that continual updates can be so very easily and automatically kept pace with at no cost by simply registering your interest or by regularly visiting the site.
INTERACTION:
Visitors to the site are urged to submit not only comments and suggestions (hopefully constructive ones!) but - more importantly - to provide additional relevant information and corrections or adjustments to what they find published here. Please do this preferably by using the Contact Us page provided or, for briefer comments and wider discussion, by the Forum.
WANTED:
We would be particularly pleased if we could find a voluntary statistician or two amongst club members/readers. We have some three thousand match cards, a hundred or more score books, dozens of Blue Books - not to mention one hundred and thirty-six seasons - all waiting to be analysed! Any takers?
INVITATION:
Why not register your interest in this project, particularly if you would like to be involved in more in-depth research for it? We would be delighted to hear from Stoics past and present, home or abroad. There must be a host of snippets and anecdotes out there that would be of wide interest within the club and which may also lead to long lost friends re-establishing contact with each other.
THE CLUB'S MAIN WEBSITE:
The Club's main day-to-day business is conducted on it's main website which can be visited here.
THE NOMADIC CRICKET PROJECT
It is hoped that this website will serve as a model for the club history element of each of the nomadic cricket clubs who join the new community project which is to be launched soon. See www.nomadiccricket.com for further information.
